The controversial speech
According to the White House, the New York Post reported that Vice President Kamala Harris called for the US to “reduce population” to combat climate change during a speech at Coppin State University in Baltimore, MD on Friday. However, the White House clarified that she meant to say “reduce pollution” instead. Harris was discussing the importance of developing a clean energy economy.
During her speech, Harris received applause when she discussed the benefits of investing in clean energy and electric vehicles, ultimately leading to cleaner air and water for our children. However, the official White House transcript corrected an error made by Harris, where she mistakenly used the term “population” instead of “pollution”. The transcript shows that “pollution” was added in brackets to accurately reflect the VP’s intended message.
