Elon Musk’s Neuralink lands into the first human subject
Elon Musk, the tech billionaire, has announced that his Neuralink project has successfully implanted a brain chip into a human subject. This marks a significant leap forward for the startup.
Even though Musk did not reveal many details, he did mention that the recipient is “recovering well”. The announcement was made on X, the social media platform that Musk purchased in 2022.
Musk wrote on X that the “initial results show promising neuron spike detection”. In this context, spikes refer to peaks of electrical activity generated by neurons. However, it is still unclear how successful the procedure has been or what outcome the patient might expect.
Neuralink’s goal is to develop a brain-computer interface implant that will enable humans to control devices solely through their thoughts. The company aims to help individuals suffering from paralysis to operate equipment that would facilitate their communication and movement.
