Global Media Freedom At Risk While Julian Assange Faces US Extradition

The entire global media and speaking the truth as a journalist is at risk while Julian Assange is facing US extradition. The world is closely monitoring the case, waiting for a conclusion.

Julian Assange’s case remains in the spotlight

Amnesty International has expressed serious concern regarding the possible extradition of Julian Assange to the US. His next hearing is coming up soon in the UK courts.

The organization warns that he may face serious human rights violations if extradited and this could have a damaging “chilling effect” on media freedom worldwide.

“The risk to publishers and investigative journalists around the world hangs in the balance. Should Julian Assange be sent to the US and prosecuted there, global media freedoms will be on trial, too,” said Julia Hall, Amnesty International’s expert on counter-terrorism and criminal justice in Europe.

The charges against Assange under the Espionage Act should be dropped, and he should be released from arbitrary detention in the UK.

“Assange will suffer personally from these politically-motivated charges and the worldwide media community will be on notice that they too are not safe. The public’s right to information about what their governments are doing in their name will be profoundly undermined. The US must drop the charges under the espionage act against Assange and bring an end to his arbitrary detention in the UK.”

It looks like Assange could receive a decision soon, and the whole world is watching.

People are trying to help raise awareness about the case, and they’re doing everything in their power to help Assange. We should, too.

Stay tuned for more reports about the matter.
