Amid a growing controversy involving Elon Musk, Disney has joined several other companies in halting advertising on the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.
As a result, Disney+ is now facing a boycott with thousands of users canceling their subscriptions.
The controversy stems from a series of controversial posts made by Musk on his platform, prompting a bevy of companies to cease advertising on the social media network.
However, when Musk responded to the companies exiting the platform, he cursed out Disney CEO Bob Iger, which led to a pushback from Disney.
Musk had made mention of Iger specifically in that diatribe against the blackmail efforts. “Hey Bob [Iger], if you are in the audience. That’s how I feel, don’t advertise,” he stated. Subsequently, Musk stated that users “already are,” boycotting Disney services.
Several global brands, including Paramount, Apple, IBM, and Disney, are among the advertisers in question. However, thousands of X users have taken to the platform to verify the ongoing boycott.
At present, “Canceled” is trending on X, with thousands of users confirming that they have abandoned Disney+.
