The Alberta Health Authority (AHS) issued a research notice on Tuesday to find clients of a dentist that may have been infected with a variety of viruses including HIV and hepatitis B and C.
“To prevent the spread of infection from one person to another, the equipment used in dental exams must be cleaned, disinfected and sterilized,” recalled Dr. Judy MacDonald of the AHS in a statement. “This unlicensed residential dental center did not have the necessary sterilization processes in place.”
On March 21, the provincial organization closed the dental practice located in a residential area of Calgary, at 20 Somervale Close SW
The AHS now asks that all clients who have attended this dental center or have been treated by the dentist Natalia Prohkin carry out screening tests to ensure that they have not contracted a virus such as AIDS.
Clients worried about their health can contact 811, the agency said.
