Getting under quarantine after you’ve been exposed to the COVID-19 disease is the wisest thing to do. But still, there’s plenty of uncertainty regarding the ideal amount of time someone should self isolate. Thanks to The San Luis Obispo County Health Department, light has been shed on the mystery.
The most cautious option for those exposed to the SARS-CoV-2 virus remains the 14-day quarantine. The press release says that if you’re asymptomatic and you don’t work in a high-risk setting, you can get under quarantine for only 10 days.
Wearing a mask and social distancing remain good ideas
The Department says that even during quarantine, people must adhere to the basic precautions like wearing a facemask and maintain a distance from others as most as possible. Dr Penny Borenstein, who is the County Health Officer, declared in the press release:
This approach balances a reduced burden of quarantine, including physical and mental health benefits and more complete compliance, against a small possibility of increasing the spread of the virus.
He also added:
It is a good option for some essential workers who are able to strictly follow COVID-19 precautions.
Also, there’s bad news coming from the SLO Co. Health Department for those who are hoping for a seven-day quarantine. Even if you have a negative test result for COVID-19 after you’ve been exposed to the pandemic virus, the Department says that they are not adopting the quarantine that lasts for seven days. The explanation is simple: shorter quarantine means a higher likelihood of transmission.
The overall situation regarding the ongoing pandemic doesn’t seem to be improving, as many countries are reporting tens of thousands of cases of infection every single day. The USA remains the hardest-hit country in the world, followed by India, Brazil, Russia, France, and so on.
