Here’s the grim thought for today that we all have to learn to live with: we’re all going to die one day. But the good news is that it can be mostly up to us to make death occur as late in life as possible. Or, if you somehow found the secret to immortality, please share it with us in the comment section!
According to CNN, there are specific activities that can reduce our risk of dying too early. We should surely take them into account, as there are so many aspects out there in society that can lead to death: pollution, germs constantly attacking us, unhealthy diets resulting in diabetes and other health issues, and more.
Physical exercise is the answer
According to the new study from the National Cancer Institute that was published in JAMA Network Open, choosing a physical activity you enjoy is the key to preventing early death and death occurring because of cancer and cardiovascular disease. You can choose between activities such as tennis, golf, swimming, running, racket sports, cycling, or even the simple act of walking.
For the new research, 272,000 people of ages between 59 and 82 years old were surveyed. They were asked about what activities they preferred during their leisure time.
The most beneficial activity seems to be represented by playing racket sports, as it was associated with a 16% reduction in early death chances and a 27% reduction in the risk of death caused by heart disease.
However, it’s important to keep in mind that the research didn’t necessarily show a cause-and-effect scheme.
Eleanor Watts, the author of the study, said, as CNN quotes:
Participation in any of the activities was associated with lower mortality in comparison with those who did not participate in each activity, including moderate-intensity activities.
There are loads of other studies out there confirming that a person can stay healthy over the years by engaging in physical exercise as much as possible. Those studies show that being a physically active person can even improve the health of the brain, reduce the risk of various diseases, manage weight, strengthen the muscles and bones, and even improve the ability to perform everyday activities.
