The Biden administration has just made public its findings regarding a 90-day investigation of the coronavirus origin and stated that they were unable to reach a relevant conclusion as to where the virus originated from.
“The IC assesses that SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19, probably emerged and infected humans through an initial small-scale exposure that occurred no later than November 2019 with the first known cluster of COVID-19 cases arising in Wuhan, China in December 2019,” reads the report’s summary.
The summary also mentioned that the researchers’ judgment led to the belief that the virus wasn’t developed as a bio-weapon.
Most agencies are partly assessing that the virus probably wasn’t genetically engineered either.
However, two agencies stated that there’s not enough evidence to make a statement either way.
“Finally, the IC assesses China’s officials did not have foreknowledge of the virus before the initial outbreak of COVID-19 emerged,” reads the document.
According to the report, the specialists would require China’s full cooperation with the investigation team to accurately conclude the virus’ origin.
The report mentioned that Beijing keeps hindering the global investigation by avoiding sharing information and blaming other countries, the US included.
The country’s seemingly unexplainable actions have a lot to say about its uncertainty to the conclusion the investigation may lead up to, plus its frustration the international community is relying on by using the problem as a means of pressuring the country.
The report explained that the researchers were split between two theories. A first theory says that the pandemic was started by natural exposure to an infected animal, while another theory ties the pandemic to a “laboratory-associated incident.”
Curiously, the agencies implied in the study considered both theories plausible.
In the statement, Biden made it clear that China had obstructed efforts to investigate the situation back from the start.
The world deserves answers, and I will not rest until we get them. Responsible nations do not shirk these kinds of responsibilities to the rest of the world,” said Biden.
