It has been revealed that people are now being urged to get their covid booster in the UK as the cases continue to rise. Check out the latest reports about this below.
Covid crisis continues in the UK
Doctor Hilary Jones is urging people who are aged 65 and over, as well as those who are immunosuppressed, to get their booster jabs this winter.
Speaking on ITV’s Lorraine show on Monday (4th December), Dr. Jones emphasized that Covid is still sending people to the hospital. He strongly recommends that those in vulnerable groups get vaccinated for the best protection.
Last winter, more than 10,000 people died from Covid and 14,000 from flu. Therefore, it makes sense to get vaccinated for both viruses.
Covid in the news
Not too long ago, we were revaling the fact that the accumulation of senescent or “zombie” cells in the brain is being accelerated due to COVID-19, as per a recent study conducted by the University of Queensland.
It is crucial to note that while certain cells accumulate in the brain naturally with age, the virus that causes COVID-19, SARS-CoV-2, has the ability to infect the brain and trigger cellular senescence, which may result in premature aging of the brain.
To investigate and understand this effect, researchers utilized brain organoids, artificial miniature brains grown from human stem cells. The lead researcher, Julio Aguado, has stated that senescent cells are known to cause tissue inflammation and degeneration, thereby rendering patients susceptible to cognitive impairments like brain fog and memory loss.
Brain fog, which is characterized by difficulty concentrating, remembering information, and lethargy, is one such condition.
According to a recent study published in Science Advances, SARS-CoV-2 is capable of causing the fusion of brain cells, leading to chronic neurological symptoms.
“We discovered COVID-19 causes neurons to undergo a cell fusion process, and once neurons fuse, they don’t die,” said Massimo Hilliard, a professor of molecular and cellular neurobiology at the University of Queensland.
