The world is freaking out about the novel covid variant called Omicron. The other day, we were reporting that the new Omicron covid variant continues to make headlines all over the world, even though experts are noting that the symptomatology is not something that we should be freaking out about.
We also revealed that CNBC just reported that covid symptoms linked to the new Omicron variant had been described as “extremely mild” by the South African doctor who first raised the alarm over the new strain.
Dr. Angelique Coetzee, chair of the South African Medical Association, told the BBC recently that she started to see patients around Nov.18 presenting with “unusual symptoms” that differed slightly from those associated with the Delta variant.
But it’s vital to note that these symptoms are mild and they should not be a cause for despair.
US tightened travel testing requirements
It’s been just reported by CNBC that the Biden administration is tightening travel rules to and within the U.S..
The new rules will be requiring all in-bound international passengers to test for Covid within 24 hours of departure and extending its mask requirement on all domestic flights and public transportation through March 18.
These changes have been announced today, as part of a broader plan to bolster the nation’s arsenal of tools in its fight against the virus as the world enters its third year of the pandemic.
CNBC also highlighted the fact that the U.S. joined that list after confirming its first case of the variant in Northern California on Wednesday.
“Our doctors believe tightening testing requirements for pre-departure will help catch more cases, potential cases of people who may be positive and inside the country.”
This is what a senior administration official said. They continued and said the following:
“And so now is the right time to do it. And we can implement it very quickly.”
