Give Up These Skin-Care-Ruining Eating Habits For Glowing Skin

Skin is the largest organ of our body, and it reflects how we are treating ourselves from the inside. More often than not, people with bad skin actually have unhealthy food habits that are leading to their skin problems.

The first step towards getting glowing skin is eating healthy. This does not mean that you need to starve yourself for a couple of days, but rather it’s about learning about your body and what it needs to stay healthy and glowing.

Eating right can make a world of difference in your skin as well as your overall health. Here are some eating habits you must give up to get healthier and clearer skin:

  • Give up on junk food: Junk foods are high in oil, sugar, and salt content. They contain various preservatives, chemicals, and food additives which overload the digestive system and produce more toxins than it can handle. These toxins lead to acne breakouts, dehydration of skin cells and dilating blood vessels, causing blotchy complexion.
  • Avoid processed food: Processed food contains high levels of trans fats which increases the production of sebum, a natural oil produced by our sebaceous glands located under the skin surface. Sebum when mixed with dirt clogs pores leading to acne breakouts. They also contain artificial flavors, high fructose corn syrup (HFCS), monosodium glutamate (MSG), colours for aesthetic appeal, etc., which may result in irritation or allergies on the skin.
  • Too much caffeine: Caffeine is another major culprit responsible for dehydrating the body. Skin that is dehydrated tends to develop more wrinkles and fine lines. Caffeine also causes stress thereby making the skin more susceptible to acne breakouts.
  • Drinking alcohol: Alcohol is a diuretic that makes you urinate more frequently thereby flushing out water from your body and leaving you dehydrated. It also affects your sleep making you look tired and haggard the next morning.
