Eight Foods You Must Consider Consuming to Keep Your Mind Sharp

We’re going through Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month, which is why we must always do our best to keep our minds active and sharp over the years. We naturally become more forgetful as we get old, and while that’s not necessarily a sign that Alzheimer’s disease is installing, consuming the right foods to help our brains is always a good idea.

The Today publication has made a list of 8 foods we can consume for boosting our brainpower and keeping our minds sharp. Here they are, so make sure you’re writing them down next time you go to the groceries shop:

Fish

Fatty fish contain DHA omega-3 fatty acids, meaning a type of polyunsaturated fat that helps to protect the brain against the risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease.

Leafy green vegetables

Eating salad is mandatory, and another reason for doing it is to keep a healthy mind. Therefore, you’d better make sure of including watercress, spinach, or kale in your diet.

Walnuts

Walnuts contain tocopherols, polyphenols, and polyunsaturated fatty acids, which are compounds that help fight inflammation when it comes to Alzheimer’s disease.

Yogurt

Higher consumption of yogurt has been linked with better executive function, helping attention, remembering details, and more.

Blueberries

Blueberries contain a decent amount of vitamin K, C, manganese, and anthocyanins. The last element is known to play a significant role in protecting our brain’s health. One remarkable fact about blueberries is that they’re among the only foods that are truly naturally blue in colour.

Chocolate and cacao

Despite a common misconception, chocolate is good for your brain. Consuming both chocolate and cacao provide benefits for the regions of the brain involving memory and learning skills.

Grapes

Grapes are known to reduce oxidative stress from the brain, benefiting the health of our mind.

Extra-virgin olive oil

Olive oil contains phenols, meaning a type of antioxidant that can help to keep our minds healthy by reducing inflammation. Olive oil has also been shown to provide health benefits in other neurodegenerative diseases besides Alzheimer’s, such as Parkinson’s and ALS.
