Animals in Danger of Extinction, and How Could We Save Them

Each and every year, more animals face the danger of becoming extinct. Whether we like to admit it or not, human activities represent the main factor for specific animal species facing the threat of extinction, which means that there is still hope to change things. It’s all up to us!

Therefore, let’s check out a little list of endangered species and try to do our best to act conscious to protect them:

Javan Rhino (Rhinoceros sondaicus):

If you’ve never heard about the beautiful Javan rhinoceros, you must know that it’s currently one of the large mammals out there, and a small population of the species is confined to Ujung Kulon National Park in Indonesia. The survival of this species is threatened by poaching and habitat loss.

Asian elephant (Elephas Maximus):

The Asian elephant might also go extinct because of human-wildlife conflict, loss of habitat, as well as poaching for body parts and ivory.

Northern White Rhinoceros (Ceratotherium simum cotton):

The northern white rhino is a pretty special case, as this species is functionally extinct in the world. Only two individuals are alive, and both of them are females, which means that they obviously cannot mate. Plenty of factors contributed to the decline of this species, and we can consider poaching for their habitat loss and horns.

Mountain Gorilla (Gorilla beringei beringei):

Mountain gorillas remain an endangered species despite the fact that white conservation efforts have helped stabilize these animals’ populations to some extent. Factors such as political instability in these animals’ native regions, habitat loss, and poaching cause these creatures to face the threat of extinction.

Amur Tiger (Panthera tigris altaica):

The Amur tiger, which is also known as the Siberian tiger, confronts threats such as poaching for their skins and body parts, habitat fragmentation, as well as depletion of prey species.

How can we solve the situation?

It’s clear that we all need to act together, or at least in large groups, to save endangered animals from the threat of extinction. Here are some of the main ways to do so:

Anti-poaching measures:

Strengthening anti-poaching efforts through increased patrols and technology (such as camera traps and drones) is a “must.”

Community engagement:

As we said, engaging as many people as possible is a “must” if we want to do our best to save endangered species. Therefore, it would be a good idea to involve local communities in conservation efforts. It is also best to support community-based conservation initiatives that can provide alternative livelihoods and reduce the conflict between humans and wildlife.

Education and awareness:

People need to be conscious of the importance of saving endangered species, meaning that it’s important to educate policymakers, communities, and the public about sustainable practices as well as the impact of human activities on wildlife.

International cooperation:

It’s also important to foster collaboration between countries to address transboundary conservation problems. On the other hand, we should also seek to support international agreements and initiatives that are focused on wildlife protection, as well as on habitat conservation.
