COVID-19 vaccination unfolds in the US in an accelerated rhythm, and there’s no wonder why. We’re talking about the hardest-hit country in the world by the pandemic, as the US counts a total of almost 19 million infections and more than 335,000 deaths.
Luckily enough, the US medical workers managed to recover over 11 million patients who suffered from the SARS-CoV-2 virus. But even so, the terrifying numbers of infections and deaths are expected to go down drastically pretty soon.
Over 1 million vaccinated Americans
The US already managed to vaccinate 1 million of its citizens with the first shot of the anti-COVID-19 drug. Robert Redfield, the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), made the big announcement:
The United States achieved an early but important milestone today – jurisdictions have now reported that more than one million people have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine since administration began 10 days ago.
A person willing to be vaccinated for COVID-19 needs to receive two shots separated by a span of several days. Many more Americans will be added to the list of vaccinated people in the near future. Dr. Moncef Slaoui, who is the chief advisor of Operation Warp Speed, declared that the country’s authorities aim to immunize 100 million people in the first quarter of 2021. Furthermore, another 100 million citizens will be added by the second quarter.
After the approval of the COVID-19 vaccine developed by Pfizer, the one created by Moderna also received authorization from the Food and Drug Administration in the US. For the current week, the target was to distribute 6 million vaccine doses developed by Moderna and another 2 million from Pfizer.
