Affecting less the 1% percent of the global population vitiligo is an exotic condition that alters the natural color of a person’s skin. It manifests in the form of lighter patches of skin that can vary from a few spots to spanning over large sections of the body. The condition can also influence the quantity of pigment found in the hair, eyes and even inside your mouth.
While researchers were not able to track down the exact cause, it is known that the affliction isn’t dangerous or contagious. People that have it may suffer from low self-esteem and even depression, since some may be surprised by the looks of those that have vitiligo.
Jam Davises advises her Instagram followers to be positive at all times. The first step is to accept that you are unique and it is not a bad thing. Even those that have vitiligo are beautiful.
Tanesha Brown, another Instagram personality, advises users to feel comfortable with whom they are. She believes that everyone is beautiful in their own way and people shouldn’t be limited by the fact that their skin is different.
Winnie Harlow is a well-known model and activist that also has vitiligo. She also believes that the first step is to love yourself and to remain strong even when negative things happen. Even when you are bullied by other kids it is important to remember that humans will always fear what they do not understand. After all, not everyone will like you for who you are, even if you were ‘’perfect’’ according to some definitions. Embracing your condition doesn’t mean that it should be glorified.
Logina Salah was terrified when she learned how the condition will change her skin. When time passed she discovered that impact was not as major as she thought it will be. Those that loved her continued to be by her side. She also tells girls that they shouldn’t care about those that want to make them feel bad since their own insecurities lead to such attitudes.
