Diabetes should never be taken lightly, as it’s one of the leading causes of death in the world. The number of cases of Type 2 diabetes has doubled in the US in the last two decades, which is alarming.
The world always needs more ways to learn how to prevent diabetes, and a new study grants more hope for all of us. Therefore, EatThis,NotThat! speaks about specific foods that you should consider eating to lower the chances of dealing with diabetes.
Watch out for dairy foods
It seems that dairy foods could lead to Type 2 diabetes in the case of people who are already at risk. In a study, scientists compared the results of individuals who have stable dairy intake with those of people who lessened total dairy consumption by over half a serving each day. This latter group had a higher risk of dealing with Type 2 diabetes.
Try low-fat milk and yogurt
It was also found that participants who had been consuming more low-fat milk and yogurt had been at a significantly lower risk of dealing with Type 2 diabetes. How low? About 43%, meaning practically half!
Also, another conclusion is that when the participants increased the consumption of low-fat yogurt but decreased the full-fat yogurt, it was also a win for them. This gimmick led to 27% decrease in developing Type 2 diabetes.
Apart from the new study, another research is relying on a new pill that promises to defeat Type 2 diabetes, meaning the most frequent type of diabetes.
This is how the Mayo Clinic describes the most common type of diabetes:
Type 2 diabetes is an impairment in the way the body regulates and uses sugar (glucose) as a fuel. This long-term (chronic) condition results in too much sugar circulating in the bloodstream. Eventually, high blood sugar levels can lead to disorders of the circulatory, nervous and immune systems.
