The world keeps concerning about the rise of monkeypox cases, the viral disease that causes fever, headaches, chills, exhaustion, and even death in some cases.
The spread of monkeypox across the world is becoming more and more significant. Last month, we found out that over 100 monkeypox cases were reported across 12 countries. As for now, the situation looks ten times worse.
No monkeypox deaths have been reported so far
Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the chief of the World Health Organization (WHO), brings the terrible news that the new monkeypox outbreak has caused more than 1,000 cases of infection across the world.
The good news is that no deaths have been reported because of the infections with the viral disease. Ghebreyesus said:
More than 1,000 confirmed cases of monkeypox have now been reported to WHO from 29 countries that are not endemic for the disease,
So far, no deaths have been reported in these countries. Cases have been reported mainly, but not only, among men who have sex with men.
Some countries are now beginning to report cases of apparent community transmission, including some cases in women.
Some of the countries that reported cases of infection with monkeypox are Australia, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, the USA, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, and the United Kingdom.
Compared to COVID, the monkeypox virus spreads in a different way. Furthermore, the medical world can treat those who suffer from monkeypox with vaccines and medications.
Dr. Ashish Jha said for ABC, as CNN quotes:
It’s not as contagious as Covid. So I am confident we’re going to be able to keep our arms around it,
But we’ll track it very closely and use the tools we have to make sure we can continue to prevent further spread and take care of the people who get infected.
