Mothers From a Certain Category Are at Higher Risk of Premature Death

Becoming a mother is certainly one of the most wonderful things in the world, but a new study from the University of York and Martin House Research Centre brings concerning news for some of the women who gave birth. There are currently about two billion mothers in the world.

According to The Yorkshire Post, the new study says that mothers who take care of seriously-ill children are at greater risk of premature death and severe illness. These women could face anxiety, depression, serious mental illness, hypertension, cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, and obesity.

Risk of premature death increases by 50 percent

Mothers who take care of severely ill children are 50 percent more likely to die prematurely compared to those ladies who have healthy kids.

Professor Lorna Fraser and also the Director of the Martin House Research Centre, declared:

There is an expectation now, that parents of children with complex or life-limiting conditions become health care providers as well as parents, often 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

He added:

This must have an impact on their health and wellbeing, as shown by this research study. Our health and social care system must be more flexible to support the needs of these parents and children.

The researchers analyzed data from 35,683 mothers. From this number, 8950 of the women had children with a life-limiting condition, 8868 mothers had children with a chronic condition, while the kids of 17,865 mothers didn’t have any long-term condition.

The world’s population is growing rapidly day by day, and data provided by worldometers.info can prove it. About 2 to 3 times more babies are born each day compared to people who die over the same time span.
