Dr. Anthony Fauci has been making headlines all over during this pandemic. Just a few days ago, we were revealing that he surprised people when he dropped some bomb news.
He warned state leaders against the “risky business” of eliminating public health measures, raising concerns on Sunday’s “Meet the Press” that the nation could see a new surge in cases if it lets its guard down.
According to the latest reports coming from NBC News, there are about a dozen states that have recently rolled back coronavirus-related restrictions that include mask mandates or limits on door gatherings.
Fauci said that even as things are heading in the right direction, caseloads are still too high to declare victory by cutting off restrictions.
“Even though the decline was steep, we absolutely need to avoid the urge to say, ‘Oh, everything is going great,’” he told. “Meet the Press.”
Fauci reveals new bout herd immunity
Fauci also said that anywhere between 70% and 85% of the population needs to be vaccinated in order for us to reach herd immunity.
“We don’t really know what that magical point of herd immunity is, but we do know that if we get the overwhelming population vaccinated, we’re going to be in good shape. We ultimately would like to get and have to get children into that mix,” Fauci said during a hearing of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee.
It’s been also revealed that as vaccinations increase, the US may be on the cusp of another Covid-19 case surge, according to another expert.
“I think we are going to see a surge in the number of infections,” emergency physician Dr. Leana Wen told CNN on Wednesday night.
She continued and said: “I think what helps this time though is that the most vulnerable — particularly nursing home residents, people who are older — are now vaccinated. And so we may prevent a spike in hospitalizations and deaths.”
