Do Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 Vaccines Lower Sperm Count? New Study Sheds Light

As the authorities and medical experts around the world are urging people to get vaccinated for COVID, there will always be individuals who are sceptical and hesitant. It’s ok to be on any side as long as you have strong arguments. One of the latest concerns regarding the COVID vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna is that they cause fertility issues, according to premature reports that The New York Post wrote about.

Fox News writes about a new study done by researchers from the University of Miami on the sperm quality of 45 healthy participants before and after being vaccinated for COVID. The surveyed volunteers were between 18 to 50 years of age, with the median age being 28 years old. They didn’t have any pre-existing fertility problems. The researchers’ conclusion is very satisfying!

COVID vaccines do NOT lower sperm count

Among those who participated in the study, there were no significant decreases detected by researchers in any of the sperm parameters. In other words, men who are willing to get vaccinated with Pfizer’s or Moderna’s jab don’t have to worry that their sperm quality will be affected.

Dr. Ranjith Ramasamy, who is director of male reproductive medicine and surgery at the University of Miami Health System and study author, declared as cited by Fox News:

Because the vaccines contain mRNA and not the live virus, it is unlikely that the vaccine would affect sperm parameters.

Dr. David Cohen, who is co-medical director of the Institute for Human Reproduction in Chicago, declared for CNN:

We now have evidence that should reassure you that the risk of immunization compromising your sperm count is extremely low.

The new findings were published in The Journal of the American Medical Association.
