It’s been just revealed that 20% of the coronavirus patients are later developing a new mental illness, a new study says.
Most common disorders post Covid-19
It seems that the most common disorders that are experienced by Covid-19 survivors within 90 days of their diagnosis are insomnia, depression and anxiety, says a study that has been published in The lance Psychiatry journal.
“People have been worried that COVID-19 survivors will be at greater risk of mental health problems, and our findings … show this to be likely,” according to Paul Harrison, a professor of psychiatry at Britain’s Oxford University.
It’s been also reported that the study looked at the electronic health records of more than 62,000 coronavirus patients in the US.
New mental illness
It has also been reported that the study group was twice as likely to suffer from a new mental illness in comparison to other groups of patients during the same period, according to experts’ reports.
“This is likely due to a combination of the psychological stressors associated with this particular pandemic and the physical effects of the illness,” according to Michael Bloomfield who is a consultant psychiatrist at University College London.
