Astonishing Scientific Claim: Eating Too Much is NOT the Main Cause of Obesity

Pretty much everybody believes that the very first cause of adding some extra kilograms to your body is eating too much. But science always gets updated, and it’s there once again to give us a new intriguing idea to reflect on.

SciTechDaily.com writes that a new study claims that the obesity epidemic is caused more by what we eat rather than the quantity itself. In other words, you need to look for quality instead of quantity if you want to have a chance of not getting fat.

Flaws in the energy balance model

Scientists invoke flaws present in the energy balance model, and they point to the alternative of the carbohydrate-insulin model. The latter better explains the problems of obesity and weight gain. It seems that the carbohydrate-insulin model also points to more effective strategies for managing weight.

Luckily enough, there are plenty of treatments out there for obesity, the condition that can lead to some awful health complications. Whether we’re talking about some types of cancer, heart disease, diabetes, or high blood pressure, they’re all on the list.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved a few months ago a drug for obesity developed by the Danish firm Novo Nordisk.

But a study from early 2021 brings us all even more worries. University of Sheffield scientists have found that being obese could aggravate Alzheimer’s disease. We’re talking about the most famous neurodegenerative disease and probably the most dangerous one as well. Alzheimer’s ultimately leads the patient to forget even his lifelong friends and relatives, and it’s also one of the leading causes of death in the world.

The new study claiming that overeating is not the main cause of obesity was published in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition.
