The covid vaccines are making headlines all over the place once again.
Vaccine mandate for kids trigger criticism
It’s been just reported that the US Surgeon General Dr. Vivek Murthy addressed Tuesday that parents need to recognize that “Covid is not harmless in our children.” This comes after actor Matthew McConaughey said his kids aren’t vaccinated and that he’s against mandating vaccines for children.
“Many kids have died. Sadly, hundreds of children — thousands — have been hospitalized, and as a dad of a child who has been hospitalized several years ago for another illness, I would never wish upon any parent they have a child that ends up in the hospital,” Murthy told CNN’s Erin Burnett on “OutFront.”
Murthy continued and said the following:
“And the vaccines have shown in these trials for children 5 through 11 they are more at 90% effective in protecting our kids from symptomatic infection, and they are remarkably safe as well.”
Murthy’s message comes after McConaughey said at The New York Times’ DealBook summit earlier Tuesday the following:
“I couldn’t mandate having to vaccinate the younger kids. I still want to find out more information.”
The actor added that, as of “right now,” he’s not vaccinating his own children.
Pfizer pushes covid booster
Meanwhile, vaccine companies are making moves. For instance, it’s been revealed that Pfizer and German partner BioNTech are planning to seek authorization for their vaccine booster shot for anyone 18 or over living in the U.S., according to a new report, a move that would greatly expand the program and boost protection levels.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s vaccine tracker is showing that 194 million Americans are fully vaccinated, equal to 58% of the overall population.
