It has been just revealed that the research involving mRNA is getting more funding. Check out the latest reports about the matter below.
New data about mRNA studies
The Victorian Labor government is providing grants to eligible research teams and biotech startups in the pursuit of developing better mRNA vaccines and medicines.
These grants will aid the research teams to create new RNA and mRNA-based therapeutics. Up to $500,000 (US$316,000) will be available for startups to quickly convert their research into treatments, while up to $100,000 will be available for teams conducting early-stage research.
Minister for Economic Growth, Tim Pallas, has opened grant applications for the “Round 3” of the mRNA Victoria Research Acceleration Fund, which is expected to create job opportunities and bring life-changing treatments for Victorians.
According to Mr. Pallas, mRNA is a rapidly growing and promising sector of our innovative economy, providing numerous job opportunities presently and the potential for even more in the future.
Through close collaboration between industry and researchers, the potential of mRNA and advanced manufacturing can be unlocked to create life-changing new vaccines and medicines.
Victoria is leading the way in mRNA technology in Australia, with over $27 million allocated towards 42 research projects aimed at developing new mRNA treatments and vaccines as part of the Labor Government’s mRNA Victoria initiative.
The government has announced that the research on mRNA has played a crucial role in the development of new treatments and vaccines for diseases like muscular dystrophy, Alzheimer’s and hard-to-treat cancers.
Minister for Medical Research, Ben Carroll, expressed his pride in the dedicated and talented medical researchers in Victoria who are changing and saving lives, and the government’s commitment to supporting their vital work.
Professor Shelley Dolan, CEO of the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, believes mRNA has “huge” potential for treating cancer.
“Our world-renowned researchers are building on decades of research excellence to harness the power of mRNA to treat cancer, with benefits for millions of cancer patients worldwide,” she said.
