Filtered Coffee Reduces The Risks Of Death By 15 Percent

A 20 years study on 500.000 Norwegian adults says that the healthiest way to drink your coffee is the filtered manner. Not the espresso, nor the boiled, and not abstinence. One to four cups of filtered coffee a day would lower the chances of dying by 15%.

It is well-known that drinking too much coffee isn’t good for your ticker. The study says that for Norwegian people too much is what exceeds 9 cups a day. So, 8 cups a day should be safe, if you are healthy and don’t have a history of heart disease or cholesterol problems. That’s something.

The age of people involved in the study was between 20 and 79. During the 20 years, up to 10% of them died. But maybe some of the ones that lost their lives didn’t have too much to do with the way they preferred to drink coffee. At least, not those in their late seventies who would have turned almost a hundred if, supposedly, they would have drunk the right coffee.

Filtered Coffee Reduces The Risks Of Death, But That Depends

The senior researcher of the study, Dr. Dag Thelle, a professor at the University of Gothenburg in Sweden, says that her team and she have correlated their findings with body weight, blood pressure, cholesterol levels, exercise, and smoking habits. But Connie Diekman, a food and nutrition consultant and former president of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, doesn’t agree with the researchers.

She considers the study to be “certainly an interesting” one. But she also said that there are lots of other reasons that could alter the results of the research. Filtered coffee couldn’t be responsible for lower cholesterol levels in the blood, nor can espresso be guilty of the higher levels.

There are other things that surely influence the cholesterol too, and that the study didn’t take into consideration. Things like diet, or how much sugar people put in their filtered coffee, or if they drink it with milk or cream, or if they use to have cookies with it, influence the statistics.
