US President Donald Trump recently signed a directive to make space operations easier for private space companies, with which he is seeking, among other things, to reduce the requirements for take-offs and landings and to grant more licenses.
According to Trump, the current regulations are too old and private companies might help the US meets objective such as return to the Moon and a manned mission on Mars.
Trump wants the departments of Labor and Commerce, in coordination with the Pentagon and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), to work together to get the new rules approved six months from now.
As said, the US president considers that the current rules are from another era and his idea is for private companies to enter the business, as SpaceX already does, and help the US Space Administration meets its space objectives which are none other than to return to the Moon and eventually send a manned mission on Mars.

One White House official acknowledged that, unlike the Cold War period, when “virtually unlimited amounts of money were invested” in the space race, “budgets are now limited.
For his part, NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine said in a statement that in the United States “there are many innovative companies working hard to build a bright future in space.
The change in regulations would also, according to the Financial Times, aim to put the United States in a position to defeat China, an emerging power in the aerospace sector.
