CDC Reports ‘Very High’ COVID-19 Levels in Over Half of U.S. States

According to the most recent data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), more than half of the states in the United States had wastewater activity levels that are considered to be “high,” and numerous regions in the Midwest reported the highest levels of test positivity over the last week, which represented up to 27 states. A statement was also made by Aron Hall, who is the deputy director for science at the CDC’s section that deals with coronavirus and other respiratory viruses:

At this point, COVID-19 can be described as endemic throughout the world.

From July 28 to August 3, 2024, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) collected data that revealed that six states in the Midwest that make up Region 5 experienced the greatest spike (2.1%) in positive COVID-19 cases. The data was published on Monday (August 12).

These are the changes in COVID-19 positive that have occurred over the past week in the states and their respective regions:

  • +1.4% for the first region, which includes the states of New Hampshire, Connecticut, Maine, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and Vermont
  • New York, New Jersey, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands make up Region 2, which has a 1.3% decrease.
  • With a 1.3% increase, the third region, which includes Maryland, Pennsylvania, Delaware, the District of Columbia, Virginia, and West Virginia.
  • A 1.4% increase was seen in the fourth region, which includes Florida, Alabama,  Georgia, Mississippi, Kentucky, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee.
  • +2.1% for Region 5 which includes the states of Minnesota, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin, and Ohio.
  • Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, New Mexico, and Arkansas make up Region 6, which has a 1.5% increase.
  • Kansas, Iowa, Missouri, and Nebraska make up Region 7, which contributed 0.9%.
  • Montana, Wyoming, North Dakota, South Dakota, Utah, and Colorado make up Region 8, which has a 1.2% decrease.
  • The following countries are included in Region 9: California, Arizona, Nevada, California, Hawaii, American Samoa ,the Federated States of Micronesia, the Marshall Islands, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, Guam, and the Republic of Palau. • (-3.1%).
  • Washington, Alaska, Idaho, and Oregon make up Region 10, which increased by 1.2%.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), you should definitely seek medical assistance if you have any of the following symptoms:

  • Pain or pressure that is persistent in the chest.
  • The inability to breathe.
  • A lack of ability to wake up or remain awake.
  • Lips, skin, or nail beds that have a pale, gray, or blue tint, respectively.
