Israeli experts have found an effective technique for removing senescent cells that contribute to the establishment of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s and atheroclerosis.
An Israeli researcher has discovered a new therapeutic method for eradicating senile cells, which may cause aging disease.
When functioning in normal parameters, cell senescence is a beneficial process that stops cell proliferation from stress and degradation. However, during aging, senile cells begin to accumulate, causing inflammation and various affections.
“In small amounts, these cells prevent tumor growth and help heal wounds,” says Valery Krizhanovsky, a molecular biologist. “But as it accumulates, it triggers inflammation and even cancer,” he adds.
The expert identified two proteins responsible for the resistance of senile cells to apoptosis (cellular suicide). It has discovered two ways to stop these proteins in both mouse and human cells. Krizhanovsky believes that such diseases could be treated associated with this type of cells.
“Eliminating and relieving senescence cells could prevent or even delay tissue dysfunctions, thus lengthening life expectancy,” he says.
