Great day for NASA and a great day for humanity as a whole as well! The little robot, also known as the Mars Science Laboratory, has just spent 2000 Martian days on the planet. In light of this event, we would like to present some of the extraordinary findings that this little machine has done so far.
Great things that Curiosity found out
Remember that time when the rover took a selfie? I bet no one has ever truly gotten over than. This event was both funny and creative. These pictures are not taken just to get a couple of likes on Instagram or retweets on Twitter, they are a way for engineers to track how the little machine is holding up. They are usually looking at the wheels of Curiosity to see if they are in good shape or at signs of dust accumulation.
Hey, the rover also captured deep water on Mars. Isn’t that exciting? Curiosity came upon The Pahrump Hills section where he took pictures of what scientists, from their analysis, believe to be a number of mudstones. They saw the mud particles coming out from within the lake and they concluded that what is now known as The Gale Lake is a body of water on Mars.
Last but not least, how can we forget to mention the very first image that Curiosity took on Mars? It is now known as the moment where it all began, a step for a journey that has unveiled a low of information. This image was taken on the 5th of August in 2012.
The image in itself is not that spectacular, it just shows the grainy ground and rover’s shadow. However, when the team of scientists in charge of Curiosity saw this image, they knew it deep within their hearts that this mission was going to be successful and so far it has exceeded many expectations.
