Water on Mars and what this means
Mars and everything surrounding it has been a topic of fascination for humanity since ancient times. The red planet, whose hue is visible even with the naked eye, has been regarded as a god, a planet of aliens, a planet of invaders, and more.
Scientific research over several decades has led to the conclusion that Mars once had water on its surface millions of years ago, and potentially life. However, conclusive evidence of the latter is yet to be discovered.
Nevertheless, scientists are confident that Mars was a watery world in the past. Recently, NASA’s rover, Perseverance, which is currently exploring the Martian surface, discovered evidence of gushing water.
NASA recently released a photo of Mars’ Jezero Crater, captured by the Mastcam-Z camera of its Perseverance rover.
The image depicts an interesting collection of rocks and pebbles scattered around the location known as ‘Castell Henllys’. NASA has stated that these rocks and pebbles were brought in by strong floodwaters billions of years ago.
One of the primary goals of the Perseverance mission is to find conclusive evidence of life on another planet, particularly in the field of Astrobiology.
Even the discovery of micro-organisms or their fossils on Mars would be a groundbreaking achievement, although it may not necessarily be the antenna-bearing aliens that we often see in popular media.

Scientists believe that animals and plants on land developed afterwards.

One of the favorite candidates for the search for life is Europa, a satellite of Jupiter. Europa is a frozen world, but scientists believe that there is a vast liquid ocean below the thick ice cover which may harbor life.”
