Mind-Blowing Intel: CIA Has Been Moderating Wikipedia

Larry Sanger, co-founder of Wikipedia, recently spoke to journalist Glenn Greenwald on his ‘System Update’ podcast. Check out the latest reports that will probably blow your mind.

CIA has been moderating Wikipedia

Sanger expressed his concern that the site, which he helped create in 2001, has become a tool for the US liberal establishment and its allies in the intelligence community to conduct “information warfare”. He believes that the left-liberal establishment, including the CIA, FBI, and other US intelligence agencies, now use Wikipedia as a means of “control”. Sanger cited evidence that CIA and FBI computers were used to edit Wikipedia as early as 2008, and he questions whether or not this practice has stopped.

In 2007, a programming student named Virgil Griffith revealed the CIA and FBI’s activities on Wikipedia. Griffith created a program called WikiScanner, which could trace the location of computers used to edit Wikipedia articles. He discovered that the CIA, FBI, large corporations, and government agencies were removing incriminating information from the online encyclopedia. For example, CIA computers were used to erase casualty counts from the Iraq War and edit entries on then-Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, China’s nuclear program, and the Argentine navy. An FBI machine was used to remove aerial and satellite images of the US prison at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba.

According to the Global Village Space, some edits were pettier, with former CIA chief William Colby apparently editing his own entry to expand his list of accomplishments.

“[The intelligence agencies] pay off the most influential people to push their agendas, which they’re already mostly in line with, or they just develop their own talent within the [intelligence] community, learn the Wikipedia game, and then push what they want to say with their own people,” Sanger told Greenwald.
