3D Generative AI Platform Atlas Accelerates Virtual Worldbuilding

It has been revealed that Atlas, a 3D generative AI platform, is accelerating virtual worldbuilding. Check out the latest reports about the matter below.

Atlas makes an impressive move

Atlas, a 3D generative AI platform, has finally emerged from two years in stealth with a whopping $6 million in seed funding.

The funding consists of two rounds: a $4.5 million round led by 6th Man Ventures (6MV), and a $1.5 million round led by Collab+Currency. The platform partners with game developers and brands to create virtual worlds in a fraction of the time it takes using traditional methods, proving to be a game-changer in the industry.

Atlas allows developers to generate detailed 3D models from reference images and text, making it a top choice for developers seeking efficiency and quality.

The Vienna-based startup was founded in early 2021 by Ben James, a self-taught coder with a background in architecture. With Atlas, he has revolutionized the way virtual worlds are built, and there’s no doubt that it will soon become an industry standard.

“I’ve worked a lot at the intersection of design and technology,” James told TechCrunch in an interview.

“I’m a self-taught coder and I thought that there would maybe be an interesting way to look at architecture through the guise of machine vision. 2D drawings like plans and sections and elevations are inherently embedded with three dimensional information through line weights, annotations, etc. And what we started playing around with at Atlas was if there was a way to connect machine vision learning information from 2D imagery, and bringing that into the 3D world.”

Atlas, a startup that specializes in the development of AI-powered design tools, received a research grant from the European Union’s High-Level Expert Group on AI at an early stage and built its technology in compliance with the union’s Ethical Guidelines for Trustworthy Artificial Intelligence.

The company’s proprietary software was developed in-house by a team of experts in AI, gaming, and design. Their aim was to create a tech stack that would act as a collaborative design partner by simplifying workflows for designers and creators.

According to Atlas, previous projects have seen a 200x increase in speed.

The startup’s current partners include Consortium 9, Shrapnel, and Square Enix, which were initially partners but later became investors.

Atlas is also collaborating with small and independent game developers. Using custom-built 3D generative AI engines, Atlas’ partners can generate virtual worlds, creative assets, and designs that are consistent with existing intellectual property and ready to be deployed anywhere.

Atlas is only available for enterprise and commercial use. The startup plans to test a public platform soon, targeted at small and indie developers. They can upload reference images and receive an AI model fine-tuned to generate in their style.
