NASA’s Curiosity rover captures photo of a fish fossil on Mars

A photo taken by NASA’s Curiosity rover currently exploring the planet Mars depicts what it appears to be a fish fossil. After NASA uploaded the captures on the internet, alien enthusiasts could clearly indicate animals, such as birds and monkeys on it, among other organisms.

These interesting discoveries led to more pictures being revealed by the American space agency, encouraging people to believe that there might be life hiding on the Red Planet. One of these pictures is a capture posted by the space agency back in 2016, and it clearly depicts a fish fossil. The image definitely shows a winged animal, complete with a tail and a reversed mouth.

The photo was initially indicated by UFO Sightings Daily, a renown website which regularly reveals peculiar shapes found in official NASA pictures.

The fascinating thing about the photo is that a fish fossil can be explained if it exists on the Red Planet. As per CNET, Mars used to be harbored by large oceans that are estimated to be bigger than the Arctic. Those bodies of water, however, are now gone and what is observable is a sea of red, and dry environment wherein researchers hope to find signs of ancient life.

The fossil can also be seen as a rock formation with the right lighting angle and shadow to make it appear as an actual fish. Even if lots of objects are just guesses, sometimes, NASA attempts an explanation.

In a previous report by IBTimes concerning what it seemed to be a human thigh bone discovered on the Red Planet’s surface back in 2014, NASA said that Mars probably never had sufficient oxygen in its atmosphere and anywhere else to support more sophisticated organisms. Therefore, the American space agency added, large fossils are not likely to be found on Mars.
